Julie Fernyhough (Chief Executive Officer)

Julie is the longest-standing member of staff here at JET. She has been with the organisation since 2003, watching it grow from a small project in the West End of Newcastle, to it gaining Charity status and serving the whole of the City. She is involved with several strategic groups across the region, always championing equality and diversity and the need for the specialist support offered by the third sector. Julie has a BSc Honours Degree in Chemistry and has experience across a wide range of programmes in the sectors, as well as completing research projects, one of which was in conjunction with Glasgow University, in Mainstreaming Refugee and Migrant Guidance. She is a fierce animal lover and is also a grandmother in her spare time.  She hates: mess! and loves: holidays.
Khatoon Khan (Office Manager & Lead Advisor)

My name is Khatoon Khan I have been working in JET since 2006. I started off as an outreach worker and now I am the office manager. I have participated on many different projects in JET and have enjoyed working for a charity that makes a real change in people’s lives.  
I have a degree in Criminology and Sociology and have worked in retail, coperative and charitable organisations. I also ran my own woman’s group called ‘Aasra’ to help women from all background live a healthy stable life to benefit them and their families.
I enjoy meeting people from different backgrounds and learning about their traditions and cultures. Learning about the differences, individual stories of how they reached the UK has made me appreciate life a lot more. 

Edgar Morales (National Careers Service Advisor)

Edgar Morales is from the Philippines and moved to England in 1998. He finished B.S. Psychology major in Industrial and Guidance Counselling at the University of San Carlos, Cebu City, Philippines. Before moving to England he also gained his M.A. in Education & Supervision. Since then he has achieved his NVQ 3 & 4 in Advice and Guidance. For 13 years he worked as a College Guidance Counsellor in the Philippines. Edgar has worked with CSV in Newcastle providing training and guidance to the unemployed under the New Deal Programme, Skillsfit programme and as a Nextstep Pathways Advisor and has also worked as an Outreach Personal Advisor in South Tyneside. Edgar loves to travel. He comes from a country which is described as the most beautiful place ever explored.
Pauline Banks (National Careers Service Advisor)

Pauline joined JET in November 2008, having worked as a Mentoring Coordinator for the North of England Refugee Service. With previous Jobcentre experience, she has worked with JET's client group for the past eight years. Pauline is a Magistrate with a degree in Sociology and History. She loves to walk her dog and hates people who are disorganised!
Nasrin Ahmadi (Lead Advisor & Work Programme Advisor)

She has been involved at the Iranian Centre North East for years in different roles, she worked as an Interpreter with the Interpreting Services in Newcastle, as a Community Integration Project Worker at the North of England Refugee Service and as a Community Development Worker in Regional Refugee Forum NE. Nasrin has worked with JET's client group since 2001. Nasrin enjoys camping, walking in country sides, cooking Iranian food and socialising with friends. She hates being disorganised .
Alice Corbett (Work Programme Advisor)

I am originally from the North-East, although have lived in London and New York whilst at University. I graduated with a degree in Fashion marketing and Marketing and hold a post-graduate diploma in Marketing from the CIM. I have worked predominantly in fashion, PR and journalism most recently working as an editorial reporter for Living North magazine.
Voluntary work has always been a big part of my life and I have always wanted to work in the voluntary sector. I previously worked with Live Theatre, the Sage Gateshead and MENCAP amongst others. In my spare time I like outdoor sports including climbing and walking. I adore travelling, art and cooking. I also collect antiques and have an established collection of Victorian pressed glass.
Shelim Miah (Job Coach)

A relatively new member of Jet, started in 2017, Shelim is from the North East and has worked mostly in a number of government organisations including the Valuation Office Agency, NHS, HMRC, DEFRA and The Labour Party.

Shelim graduated with a Masters Degree in Design although he has now taken a different approach career wise in life. He is a people person and enjoys helping and providing support to people that really need it. Shelim’s main interests lie in reading science fiction comics and graphic novels, he is also a keen collector of rare and collectible figures. Shelim also enjoys listening to a wide variety of music and watching different genres of film.

Jaya Drona (ESOL Tutor & Volunteer Coordinator)

I grew up in India where I studied Mass Communication and worked as a journalist for eight years before I decided to come live in Newcastle. I dabbled in radio and retail before finding my calling in teaching ESOL. Studying at Newcastle College while volunteering as a trainee ESOL Tutor at JET paved the way for my role as JET's ESOL Tutor and Volunteer Coordinator - a job that is both rewarding and fulfilling. 

I love being part of JET's diverse team and working with clients who are from over 100 countries.  An avid reader, amateur singer, consumed by wanderlust, my dream is to learn Indian classical music to regale any interested audiences!

Gopila Sharma (Job Coach)

My name is Gopila, I currently work as a Job coach at JET. I am highly dedicated and ambitious, at the same time I am a fun loving person. I was one of JET’s clients who was hired as an administrator for a year and also volunteered as an ICT tutor.
JET has given me the opportunity where I could use my knowledge and experience to improve the lives of clients whilst also improving my own skills.
Professionally; I have done Masters in Computer Science, I have more than 5 years of teaching experience. I have also worked as an IT tutor in Sunderland university campus. Working with diverse people is such an exciting and inspiring opportunity.
I have also worked with National Citizen Services, working with Young people is always fun. I believe in “Simple living and high thinking”.
Shamaila Riaz (Job Coach)

Hi. I am Shamaila Riaz - Job Coach on BBO Wise Steps at JET. I am originally from Pakistan and moved to live in the UK in 1992. Before taking up my position  with JET in January 2017, I was working as a Community Engagement Development Officer at BECON.
In 2001, I completed my degree in Accountancy at Northumbria University. 
Working with BECON as a Community Engagement Development Officer in 2014 was a great opportunity to work again in the voluntary sector after 8 years gap in my career. 
I really enjoy my new challenge at JET. This is another great opportunity to further enhance my existing skills and knowledge gained from previous employment. I enjoy spending time with my family, reading books, sewing, playing Candy Crush Saga and supporting family members.


Khalid Mahmoud (Job Coach)

Originally from Sudan, grew up and lived in Dongola, a historical beautiful city in the heart of Nubia in Northern Sudan. I also lived in Norway for about 12 years before I relocated to the U.K. in 2014. I have B.Sc. Honours degree in Agricultural Sciences and, have different rich valuable work experiences in Agri-business Management, Translation, Teaching and Customer Services gained from Sudan, Norway and U.K. 

I joined JET as a Job Coach in July 2017 and since then, I am enjoying the beauty of diversity and integration. Politics, Human Rights and Environment are some of my popular interests in life. In Norway, I am a member of the Green Party since 2009 and, here in the U.K., I am a member of the Permaculture Association since I came to the country. My highest values are Earth, People and fair shares. I enjoy reading, swimming, cooking, travelling and horse riding. I like Humility and dislike Vanity.


Eduardo Gutierrez  (Administrator)

Originally from Spain, Eduardo Gutierrez lived and grew up in Almeria, a stunning city on the south coast of Spain. During his time there, he completed his masters degree in Business, Administration and Management, and worked as an administrator and accounts assistant.
 
He moved to England with a view to improve his English and feels Newcastle chose him to take him closer to his goal. He works as the administrator at JET and enjoys the multicultural setting here. He is keen to learn new things and expand his skills set. His long-term goal is to practice accountancy as that is where his passion lies.
 
Spending time with his family, reading, an active interest in sports, driving are some things that figure high on Eduardo’s list of likes. 

Maria Cleaver (Personal Assistant)


I was born in Colombia where I worked as a Head Teacher until I moved to the UK in 1997. Worked for Durham University as an office manager, went back to Colombia for four years where I was working as Head of English and Preschool Coordinator and came back to the UK in 2015 after spending some time with my family. I joined JET as PA for the CEO in 2016.

I am passionate about my job and enjoy working with people from all over the world and learning new things every day. I love cooking, music, walking and spending time with friends and family, especially with my lovely Tony.


Kate Tully (Finance)


My name is Kate Tully and I’m the Finance Officer for JET. I’ve worked at JET for 3 years and enjoy working with colleagues from all kinds of backgrounds. I also run my own Community Accountancy business where I help charitable organizations with their finances including payroll, independent examinations and book-keeping.

I have worked in the charitable sector since 1990 as a volunteer and as a worker and find this work rewarding and meaningful.

I also enjoy making and decorating cakes, and this may be put to use in the near future at the Wicker Chair.

Dave Boad - ICT Contractor

I provide a wide range of ICT support services for small to medium businesses and charities based in the North East and have more than 25 years experience working in the IT sector.

I’ve maintained JET’s ICT infrastructure since November 2015, ensuring their systems remain reliable and efficient. Working with the staff at JET has given me the opportunity to appreciate and learn about so many different cultures and traditions.

I’m an active member of the parent teacher association at my daughter’s school and in my spare time make the most of my time with family and friends, along with my passion for Newcastle United and my secret love of cooking.
