Week 3

Hi everyone!
Today I would like to tell you more about JET ESOL classes (English My Way). Basically it is English Lessons as a Second Language for adults.
Since I have started my volunteering at JET I went few times to Sasha's ESOL classes. It was a great experience to talk with the learners and to discover how the lessons are. They learn all the basics of the language and also all the things that can be useful for the everyday life. I think it is really useful in case you have to go to the doctor for example, it will make the communication easier. Also it is a great opportunity if they are looking for a job here.
Lessons are interesting and are made in order to meet the expectations and needs of the learners.

Also, today is the birthday of Sasha, so we celebrated it at the office! It was lovely!

Week 2

Hi everyone !

This week I went to Wicker Chair Coffee with Jaya. I have met some of the people taking care of the place. They are lovely! The place is lovely as well. It is a cosy place were you can have a drink and something nice to eat. While you’re sitting in the room you can see what is going on in the kitchen which is really interesting.

In the coming weeks I will get to know more about the café and maybe have the opportunity to interview the people who work there!

[ Week 1 ]

Hi! My name is Marie. I am from France. I just moved to Newcastle. It is the first time I am living in an other country. In France we also use the word adventure when we start a new experience, nearly like starting a new life where you have everything to discover. To me, this new experience is an adventure because I am discovering a new culture and meeting many different people.

This blog is about my experience as a volunteer at JET. You can follow here all my different adventures, discoveries and chronicles. Hope you will enjoy it!

This week was my first week at JET as a volunteer.
I have meet the team at the office, and the staff is very friendly. I am very glad to meet so many different people and have the opportunity to know them and see how they work to help people.I have been able to discovers few of their activities. I have been very surprised how they help people in many different fields and always give advice with kindness and respect.

This week I have been able to participate in an ESOL class (English My Way) and it was a great experience. When you are new to a country sometimes you need to learn the language from the very beginning and the way to teach and learn is very different from how I learnt English in France. It was a great experience and I really appreciated this class.
I also went to the West End Women and Girls Centre with Shamaila and I have been able to discover a new place, only for women, where on Wednesday morning they can have some advice and a breakfast. It was a very cosy place. Hopefully I will discover more about Shamaila job in the new few weeks!
