Qaisar Mushtaq from Pakistan - he came to JET in September 2005 to find out what training courses we offered. He spoke to one of our guidance workers and was enrolled onto JET's ESOL for Jobs course. The course covered CV and letter writing, how to jobsearch, plus advice on job interview techniques.

Work UK

A FREE follow-on course from ESOL for Jobs, designed to ease the transition from job seeker to employee. Work UK focuses on workplace culture in the UK, considering aspects of employment law and rights and responsilities at work.

Course outline:

  • Private / public sector – different employers and employment sectors.
  • Cultural differences, timekeeping, dress codes, reporting absence.
  • Examples of discrimination, employees’ Rights in workplace
  • Understanding of legislation relating to equal opportunities and look at case studies. Equal Opps Policy. 
  • What is in a contract, obligations and restrictions etc.
  • Understanding payslips and P45’s. NINos.  Understanding benefits – signing off, claiming housing benefit, tax credits etc
  • Understanding policies and procedures, Health and Safety, Absence etc.

The next Work UK course will start In 15th March 2010.

Clients must have English to ESOL Entry Level 2c as a minimum.
