Qaisar Mushtaq from Pakistan - he came to JET in September 2005 to find out what training courses we offered. He spoke to one of our guidance workers and was enrolled onto JET's ESOL for Jobs course. The course covered CV and letter writing, how to jobsearch, plus advice on job interview techniques.

Parvez (Mohammed Afsaruzzaman)

After arriving in the UK in August 2005 from Bangladesh, Mohammed Afsaruzzaman - known as Parvez - turned to JET to help him secure sustainable employment.

While interviewing him, it became apparent to the JET staff that Parvez had both numerical and business skills having previously been an accountant and run his own business, back in Bangladesh. He was very keen to get back into this profession but wasn't sure where to start, "It's not as easy as you might think", said Parvez. "I had no contacts here in England and needed help with speaking the language."

In assisting him in furthering his skills JET set about finding him a voluntary placement with Harun & Co Accountancy in the West End of Newcastle. This provided him with the opportunity to improve his English as well as gaining an invaluable insight into the UK work culture. Through Parvez's own determination and hard work, plus ongoing mentoring and tailor-made support from JET, he secured paid employment with Harun & Co as a trainee accountant.

Parvez's boss, Mr Assad Harun was delighted to take him on board. He said: "I was so pleased with how things progressed with Parvez, that I have now asked JET to find me another work experience placement." He has also taken on Marjan Marshadi from Iran as a paid employee too.

Further voluntary placements have been secured by JET with Harun & Co Accountancy, including Lubica Greplova from Slovakia and Janice Marfat from the Philippines.
