Case Study

Biba (Ljubimka Vukas), one of our JET volunteers here teaching an IT class with one of our top students, Robert Kanci. Biba came from Croatia to the UK, and registered with JET in October 2006. She came to visit JET as she was looking for some experience in IT teaching.

Kisantu Michel Kiese

Kisantu Michel KieseMichel came to the UK from Congo in 2003.  He came to JET in May 2008 looking for help to get work experience in finance.

Michel has a degree in Mathematics and ran his own business in Congo for nearly 20 years. Since coming to the UK he has completed a Diploma in Payroll Management with the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers and had been applying for jobs in this area without any success. The feedback that he had from employers was that he needed to get some UK work experience.

JET helped Michel to update his CV, write a cover letter and discussed where he could look for work experience. We also facilitated a short placement with Home Group in their Finance department.
Michel has also arranged some voluntary work with the Oxfam Finance department. He will now use this experience to apply for work, with ongoing support from the JET team.

Michel had this to say about JET, “I am very happy for all JET has done for me, when I finished my studies as a full bookkeeper I did not know where to start about work placement. I send CVs everywhere but no positive response has been given to me. They told me I need some experience before I start to work, I was wondering where I can get experience, the experience is coming with the work, if you work then you get experience, if you don't work you can't get experience, I was getting stuck and I was looking for an help.

When I met Hilary from JET she helped me about how to make a CV and cover letter, she showed me where to apply for working experience and bring me at Home Group where I am doing the volunteering work for getting experience.  I would like to thank JET for the support that I got from them.”
